The prevailing thought in my life these days is “authentic church.” As I have dwelled on this thought, the Lord has been pointing out a need to strip away fluff from what we call “church.”
He has not brought this thought to conclusion. This passage got me thinking about the idea of bearing good fruit. The church should be a good fruit bearer. Yet how often do we see the opposite. The reality is WE are the church. If the “church” is bearing bad fruit, that means WE are bearing bad fruit. Of course I understand that not everyone falls into that category. However, all of us are responsible to honor God with our lives in such a way that people will see our lives and glorify the Lord. Consider the words of Jesus Christ in this last section of His Sermon on the Mount. How can you make adjustments in your life to be a good fruit bearer? Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Matthew 7:15-20 15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
