A Good Name
Multiple times in the Bible we read about the significance of having a good name. Samuel is said to have had favor with God and man. Jesus is said to have had favor with God and man. And we are taught in Proverbs 22 that a good name is better than great riches. If you know me, then you know that Proverbs 3:5-6 is my life passage; a friend painted it for me and that painting hangs in our apartment. I use it to remind me that God knows more than I and I must yield myself to Him. I’ve quoted and read that passage countless times. So imagine my “surprise” when God pointed out the significance of verses three and four this morning. The writer says that if we practice love and faithfulness, and keep them close, we will have favor and a good name with God and man. A good name opens many doors. A good name is a prerequisite to a good witness. Without it, your ability to effectively witness for Christ is compromised. Take time to sit with God and ask Him if you have a good name. When He answers, believe Him and take appropriate action. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Proverbs 3:3-4 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Today’s Readings: Matthew 8:1-17; Proverbs 3:1-6
