An Alabaster Jar
This passage reminds me of a song by CeCe Winans titled Alabaster Box. A line in the song is, “you don’t know the cost of the oil in my alabaster box.” The breaking of the alabaster jar in this passage symbolizes the brokenness of the woman who is anointing Jesus. She is surrendering her life to Him by giving Him her all. It can be assumed that she has had a difficult life, yet, for her, finding Jesus changed her circumstances. One’s life is the highest price they can pay. Jesus did that for us. The woman in this story understood something we all would do well to learn; she knew that without Jesus, her life was nothing. Do you have that attitude? Are you a person who understands that without Jesus you’re nothing? Spend time with God today. Ask Him to reveal areas in your life that you have not surrendered to Him. When He shows you, don’t quibble, surrender! Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Mark 14:3 3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Today’s Readings: Mark 14:1-21; Proverbs 10:31-32
