Genesis 47 is interesting. Especially to US Christians with our history of slavery. When that institution was thriving in our country, enslavers would use the Bible to encourage their enslaved workers that they were doing the work of God.
A passage like this one would probably not be placed in the Bible made for US based enslaved Christians. It shows a humanity that was not desired by enslavers in that era. The lesson I peal from this is to be compassionate in all circumstances. No matter your lofty status, treat those in your charge with respect and dignity. This is how God treats you. And NOBODY has a loftier “status” than He. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Genesis 47:23-24 23 Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can plant the ground. 24 But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children.” Today’s Reading: Genesis 47
