Cause To Pause
In my travels around the sun, I’ve encountered many people. The ones that give me cause to pause are those who do not hold themselves accountable for their actions. These are people who do the wrong thing. Then when they it is pointed out they get angry as if they could do no wrong. This lack of individual accountability is on display in this passage. Instead of Cain taking a step back, inquiring of the LORD about what he can do to provide a worthy offering, he kills his brother. Think about that. Cain ended Abel’s life because Abel understood the assignment. Do you do that? Are you a person who gets upset when someone does a better job than you? I have seen far too many people get upset in these situations. Their mentality is one of entitlement. They have convinced themselves that their efforts should always be applauded. NEWSFLASH: That’s not God-like! Spend time today taking accountability of your actions, present and past. Ask yourself the difficult questions. Seek the Father and ask Him to point out areas in your life where you have felt entitled to something you did not earn. God is faithful and He will help you. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Genesis 4:2b-5 Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Today’s Reading: Genesis 4
