As I read this passage, I came across the word “tremble.” It reminded me of what James wrote in chapter two of his book. He said that even the demons believe that there is one God and “tremble.”
The further explanation of these kings trembling at God is a reminder of how much the demons fear God. Although we do not need to fear God in this way, we should have a reverent fear of Him. As I watch us navigate this world, far too often I see us, Christians, passing judgement, unforgiving, and boastful of our status. This does not bring us closer to God. It takes us away from Him. Our pursuit of God should draw us closer to Him. As we draw closer to Him, our sin becomes more exposed. As you see just how unworthy you are in the presence of a Holy God, judgement, unforgiveness, and boasting will be replaced by grace, compassion, and humility. Take a good look at your life. Do you fear God? Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Psalm 48:4-7 4 When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together, 5 they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror. 6 Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor. 7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.
