I, I, me, me, me, this is far too often the mentality of the American Christian. Our freedom in Christ coupled with our liberties as a US citizen can dilute our sense of reality as we walk with Christ.
This passage is a reminder of how the Israelites responded to God’s rescue of them as He brought them out of a life of servitude. As they went along, they complained about not having food and not having meat. They actually longed for the foods they had while they were enslaved in Egypt. Allow that to marinate in your mind. The Israelites preferred to be "well" fed and enslaved rather than to be fed and free. What are you holding on to because you want that more than you want what God has to offer you? Is it a friend group? Is it a job? Is it a vacation plan? Is it your “soulmate?” These things seem to be harmless and you have the right to choose them. And just as you have this freedom of choice, God has the right to not accept or bless your decision. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Psalm 78:25-31 25 Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat. 26 He let loose the east wind from the heavens and by his power made the south wind blow. 27 He rained meat down on them like dust, birds like sand on the seashore. 28 He made them come down inside their camp, all around their tents. 29 They ate till they were gorged—he had given them what they craved. 30 But before they turned from what they craved, even while the food was still in their mouths, 31 God’s anger rose against them; he put to death the sturdiest among them, cutting down the young men of Israel.
