Jesus Is Not Divisive

The fact that this passage says the people were divided because of Jesus can give a person cause to pause. Is Jesus divisive? 

No, not in the sense of Him saying one thing to one group and another thing to another group, thus causing confusion and division. 

On the contrary, Jesus speaks one message. Which leads to the question, why are people divided because of Him. 

The simple answer is free will. Everyone is allowed to make their own decision about Jesus. That’s where the division comes in. People are convicted by the standard of living Jesus said we must have. Living up to that standard gets in the way of the type life some want to live. 

Therefore, the ones who want to “rebel” seek to say and do things to discredit Jesus. They do this to justify their rebellious lifestyle.
