As I read this passage for the “however many” time, I realized something. All the commandments mentioned by Jesus focused on how we must interact with people. The rich young man seems to have interacted with people well. So what was the problem?
He did not trust God. Being good to people seems “heaven worthy,” but it is not. Accepting what Jesus did on the cross by having faith in God is “heaven worthy.” We see the man not be willing to put his trust in God. He knew what his riches could get him and seemed to be unwilling to give up the “comfort” of riches for the “persecution” of a life with Christ. Do a serious life check? Do you trust God? If so, do you live like you trust Him? Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Matthew 19:17-20 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Today’s Reading: Matthew 19
