Mistakenly Identified
I’m always fascinated by how wrong the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law were about who Jesus is. They knew the scriptures but did not recognize Him when He was fulfilling the prophecies right in front of them. Unfortunately, many Christians of today still mistakenly identify Him. They think of Him as their personal genie or scapegoat. When the want something they “rub the lamp of prayer.” If they get what they want, happy days follow. If they do not, then they have “confirmed” that Jesus is not real. Of course they repeat this cycle throughout their life. Are you like that? Do you treat Jesus as your personal genie? Do you look to Him when you need something, but don’t consider Him when things are well? Take time today to ponder these questions. It will help you in your faith. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Matthew 27:38-44 38 Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him. Today’s Readings: Matthew 27:32-66; Proverbs 9:7-8
