Motive
Recently, I was speaking to a group of young, mature Christians. We talked about what we do and the importance of motive. What drives us to do a thing matters as much as the thing we are doing. The Bible teaches us that God does not look at the “outward” appearance, but rather what’s inside. In this context, He’s talking about people. However, it is not a stretch to apply this principle to our actions. In Isaiah 29, God says that the people honor Him with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. Your actions should match your motive (what’s inside). People underestimate Christ’s warning in Matthew 7, “Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven.” You may have convinced you and your friends of your love for God, but you can never fool Him. He looks right through your false motives and will judge you accordingly. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. 1 Corinthians 4:3-5 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. Today’s Reading: 1 Corinthians 4
