One Church
Do a quick Google search and you will find that there are close to 50,000 different Christian denominations. These are lumped into three major groups, Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox. This can be overwhelming for the seeker. How do they choose what to believe or how to follow Christ? The answer is found in this passage. John identifies people who are doing the work of Jesus Christ, but those people were not a part of Jesus’ disciples. Jesus’ response helps us better understand that we are one Church. People who are seeking God through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit are all moving in the same direction. They may worship a little differently than you but as long as they keep Christ first, we are not to hinder them, because they are not hindering us. Be careful not to seek “the best way to follow Christ,” rather seek Christ and do what He tells you to do. It’s never about your denomination or non-Biblical traditions. It’s always about sharing the gospel in a way that brings honor to God. If you are doing this, do not worry about your denomination. There’s no sanctification in that. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Luke 9:49-50 49 “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” 50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.” Today’s Readings: Luke 9:28-50; Proverbs 12:10
