Produce Fruit
I have not heard many messages on the teachings of John the Baptist. In fact, I have never taught on the teachings of John the Baptist. That will change in the coming week as I will teach about his teachings on the March 23 episode of the Agape Leaders podcast. I hope you listen to the podcast twice weekly. The lessons will help you grow in your faith. In this passage John shares a lesson that Jesus will teach during His time on earth. We need to produce fruit. But there’s a tag on his lesson to produce fruit. He adds, “in keeping with your repentance.” That jumped off the page for me. We say we have repented. We say we have given our lives to Christ, yet there is no fruit in our lives. We think that we get to say, “my relationship with God is between Him and me, alone” and that absolves us from having to share our gifts and be fruit bearers. That is not so. If you are walking with Christ, you MUST bear fruit. It’s non-negotiable. What fruit are you bearing? Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Luke 3:7-9 7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” Today’s Readings: Luke 3:1-22; Proverbs 11:16-17
