I wonder what the thought process was for the person who invented the roller coaster. Were they thinking about the joy riders would have with the twists, turns, and speed changes? I’m not a huge fan of roller coasters, although I will ride some.
But what I do know is that life and roller coasters are similar in the twists, turns, and speed changes. The writer of Psalm 123 seems to understand this as well. It is one of fifteen songs of ascent the Israelites would sing as they made their way to Jerusalem for their three pilgrimage festivals. Although we do not participate in these festivals, we can relate to the words of the Psalmist because of our life experiences. As we ride the “roller coaster” of life, we can cling to the promises of God found in this Psalm and throughout the Bible. Here’s today’s Bible verse and reading. Enjoy. Psalm 123 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy. 3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt. 4 We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.
