The Aroma of Christ

Smells can be intoxicating. If you are hungry, the right scent of food can send your hunger pains into overdrive. Conversely, the wrong scent can be nauseating. It’s interesting that smells have such an impact on our lives. 

In today’s reading, Paul talks about the aroma of Christ. This is who we are. When we are with people we must live for Christ in such a way that their reaction is similar to the one experienced by a hungry person who smells good food. They should be drawn to Jesus Christ. 

Unfortunately, far too often our “aroma” as “Christians” can be nauseating. We live for self gratification. We distort the Word of God for our pleasure. Then we complain because things are not going the way we believe they should. Of course they’re not. In those times, we are not the aroma of Christ, we are the stench of satan and our flesh. 

Spend time with the Father today. Ask Him if you are the sweet aroma of Christ or if you’re a foul stench in His nostrils. Respond accordingly to His answer. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. 

2 Corinthians 2:14-17

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? 17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
