The Island Of Patmos
We all know that Paul wrote several of his letters while in prison. But what we may not realize is that John was also in “prison” when he wrote the book of Revelation. The Island of Patmos was a penal colony used by the Romans to send prisoners and exiles; John was the latter. Why is this significant? Because it’s a reminder that no matter how close you are to Jesus, you’re going to face struggles for His sake. That does not include the struggles you face because of your poor decision making. In this passage, John tells us that we are his companions in “struggles.” There’s no need to pray, “Lord, please keep me from struggling,” because God’s not answering that prayer in the affirmative. Pray for God to help you endure, well, the struggles you will face for His name. Ask Him for wisdom to learn, then share the lessons He has for you. God is on your side. He will freely give you what you ask for in that prayer. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Revelation 1:9-11 9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches:to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira,Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.” Today’s Reading: Revelation 1
