The Shack
Part of the Summer Movie Crew and I watched “The Shack” the other day. In that movie is a scene where the main character meets Wisdom. Because he had been acting as the judge of others, she had him sit in the judgement seat. He quickly learned that judging justly is impossible for man. He realized that the consequences were too high for him to make a decision. We should adopt this level of understanding. In Romans 14, Paul is teaching us that our faith journey is not the same as everyone else’s. What God calls us to abstain from may not be what He has called another person to abstain from. He uses food as the example. As you read this chapter, pay attention. Then ask yourself the difficult questions. “Am I a stumbling obstacle for my brothers and sisters,” “How can I best relate to my friends as their brother or sister in Christ,” or any other question that leads you to love the way God loves. Not as a tyrannical judge, but rather as a loving, compassionate, and patient Judge. Who do you need to support today? Send them a text of encouragement. Let them know you’re thinking about them and rooting for them. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Romans 14:10-13 10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. Today’s Reading: Romans 14
