Traditions
Does your family or friend group have some traditions that you’ve created? Most cultures, families, and individuals have traditions. It’s a norm. In Biblical times, and still today in most cultures, the firstborn had the place of honor and leadership. But we read a few times in the Bible where the firstborn does not receive the position of honor. This passage is one of those times. I have no idea why God does that. My educated guess is, it’s a reminder that He is sovereign and does not live by our traditions. We see this through the life of Jesus. He turned the religious traditions of His day upside down. That is why the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law were so opposed to Jesus, He disrupted their norms and challenged their traditions. What traditions do you practice? Do they draw you into a closer relationship with the Father? Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Genesis 48:18-19 18 Joseph said to him, “No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.” 19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations.” Today’s Reading: Genesis 48
