Why No Mercy
This parable fascinates me. Servant A is forgiven the equivalent of thousands of years wages, but he would not forgive the debt Servant B owed him. That debt was the equivalent of 100 days wages. Servant A was shown great mercy, yet he was not willing to show Servant B mercy. This is a picture of how we are. We get upset at people because they’ve “wronged” us. We say things like, “I will never forgive that person.” However, we run to God for His mercy to forgive our transgressions. That doesn’t make sense. Why no mercy? As Christians, we should be the biggest mercy givers in the world. We know what God has forgiven in our lives. We know that without the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ we were headed for eternal separation from God, and we still have the audacity to withhold mercy from others. That should not be. Spend time with God today. Ask Him to show you areas in your life where you need to show mercy to others. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. Matthew 18:26-28 26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded. Today’s Readings: Matthew 18:22-35; Proverbs 5:22-23
