Unrepented Sin
Recently I wrote a daily devotion titled “Easily Deceived.” In that devo, I explained the mindset of wanting what you want, how you want it, and when you want it. As I concluded this passage in 2 Corinthians 12, I thought about that “want what I want” mentality. Paul is concerned that God will humble him because when he returns to Corinth, he will see so many of the “believers” living in unrepented sin. If you don’t know, that’s a huge problem. In the book of Matthew, we read about John the Baptist teaching about repentance. In that same book, Jesus’ ministry begins with Him teaching about repentance. If you have not figured it out, you must repent of your sin. It’s not enough to say “sorry, I promise I’ll stop.” You must change your thoughts. Repentance is not simply stopping. It entails turning and walking toward God. Yes, stop doing what’s wrong. But also leave that behind, change how you think, and live a life of obedience to God. Paul says it like this, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. THEN you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— His good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Living with unrepented sin leads to eternal separation from God. Trust me; you do not want that. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. 2 Corinthians 12:21 21 I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged. Today’s Readings: 2 Corinthians 12:11-21; Psalm 56; Proverbs 23:6-8
