You Thought
As a high school teacher my exposure to slang is off the charts. I’m not sure if it’s still popular, but for a season of life, the phrase “you thought,” was something teens would say to imply your thinking was wrong. This passage teaches us that being a disciple of Jesus means difficult times are coming. Too many Christians, myself included, believed that accepting Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation meant an easy, temptationless life. YOU THOUGHT! The truth is, Jesus confirms many times in scripture that a life in Him will be a life filled with trouble and persecution. That’s what you “signed up for.” Take time today to count the cost of following Jesus. Then put a smile in your heart because you have been considered worthy of suffering for the name of Jesus. What a blessing. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. John 16:31-33 31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Today’s Readings: John 16:1-33; Proverbs 16:4-5
