Our freedoms in the US can get us into trouble as it pertains to living a life for Christ. We seek these freedoms as if they are synonymous with freedom in Christ. They are not.
Notice how Paul’s words to the people of Thessalonica contrast the freedoms we enjoy in the US. The word “sanctified” means set apart, holy, different. In our country, we subscribe to the mentality of, “if it feels good do it,” “I can do what I want, I’m grown,” “go with the flow,” and many other ideologies that fly in the face of surrendering your life to Christ through sanctification. Take some time, today to do an inventory of your mindset. Are you focused on Jesus no matter what? Or is your life yours and Jesus is there as an ornament? If you’re honest, what you see might surprise you. Here’s today’s Bible verse. Enjoy. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit. Today’s Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4
